With over 25 years in the coffee and tea industry, James Hutchins has built a career focused on quality, sustainability, operations, and education. He has worked alongside leading roasters and coffee & tea companies, with a strong commitment to ethical practices and respect for the people behind every cup.
As the founder of Laughing Bird Coffee Co., James and his partner Farida bring that experience into a purpose-driven brand. Based in Richmond, they partner with an experienced roasting team to bring their coffees to life—allowing them to focus on sourcing, quality, and the experience they create locally.
OUR BEGINNINGS
From Australia and India to America, our story is rooted in a shared love of coffee and tea. Inspired daily by our daughters, we built Laughing Bird Coffee Co. as a reflection of what matters most—caring for others, protecting the planet, and taking action where it counts.
BREW GOOD
We brew good by sourcing high-quality, sustainably farmed specialty coffee and offering premium loose leaf teas. Our coffees are roasted in partnership with a dedicated roasting team to ensure consistency and quality in every batch.
All of our coffee is specialty grade and ethically traded, with a focus on strong relationships and respect for the farm and the farmer. Every lot is carefully selected based on cup quality, processing, and sustainable practices.
DO GOOD
We do good by turning everyday purchases into meaningful environmental impact. Through our partnership with Greenspark, every online order contributes to verified climate projects around the world.
This includes planting a tree with every purchase and supporting the restoration of critical ecosystems like the mangroves of Brazil—helping capture carbon, protect coastlines, and preserve biodiversity.
