☕ How to Brew Laughing Bird Coffee

French Press | Sustainable • Direct Trade

The French press is a timeless brewing method that gives you a full-bodied, deeply flavorful cup. With no paper filter to strip away oils or aroma, this method preserves the coffee’s natural richness and texture — perfect for savoring coffees with character.

Why Choose French Press?

Unlike pour-over or drip brewers, the French press uses immersion brewing, meaning the coffee grounds steep directly in water. This allows the coffee’s natural oils and fine sediment to remain in the cup — enhancing body, mouthfeel, and intensity.

It’s a fantastic method for darker roasts, as well as more complex seasonal offerings like our Coffee of the Month, which often feature layered, nuanced flavors that shine in this style of brew.

What You’ll Need:

  • French press (8-cup or single-serve)
  • 30g Laughing Bird Coffee, coarsely ground
  • 450g hot water (~200°F)
  • Timer
  • Stir stick or spoon
  • Mug

Brewing Steps:

1. Measure – Use a 1:15 ratio: 30g coffee to 450g water
2. Grind – Use a coarse grind, similar to sea salt
3. Add Coffee – Place coffee grounds into the French press
4. Pour Water – Slowly pour hot water over the grounds until fully saturated
5. Stir @ 1:00 – After one minute, gently stir to break the crust
6. Steep – Let the coffee steep for a total of 4 minutes
7. Plunge – Press the plunger down slowly and steadily
8. Serve – Pour and enjoy immediately. For best taste, don’t let it sit too long in the press

Tip:

French press is ideal when you want to experience the depth and texture of coffee. Try it with complex blends, limited releases, or medium-dark roasts where the full immersion highlights sweetness, spice, and low-end richness.
