☕ How to Brew Laughing Bird Coffee

Pour Over | 21g Recipe • 1:16 Ratio
Sustainable • Direct Trade

This balanced pour-over recipe brings out the layered complexity of our sustainable, direct trade coffee — perfect for a smooth, clean daily cup.

Why Pour Over?

The pour-over method is ideal for single origin coffees, like our bright and flavorful Ethiopia Sidama. It highlights the unique characteristics of lighter roasts, bringing forward floral, citrus, and fruity notes with clarity and brightness. Pour-over lets you savor every nuanced detail in these carefully sourced beans.

What You’ll Need:

  • Pour-over brewer (V60, Kalita Wave, etc.)
  • Filter
  • 21g Laughing Bird Coffee, medium grind (like sand)
  • 336g hot water (~200°F)
  • Gooseneck kettle
  • Scale & timer
  • Mug or carafe

Brewing Steps with Scale:

1. Prep – Place your pour-over brewer on the scale. Insert and rinse the filter with hot water, then discard the rinse water.
2. Add Coffee – Zero (tare) the scale, then add 21g of ground coffee to the filter. Level the grounds gently.
3. Bloom – Start your timer. Pour about 40–45g of hot water evenly over the grounds to saturate them, then wait 30–45 seconds.
4. Pour – Slowly pour the remaining water in steady, circular motions, keeping an eye on the scale until you reach 336g total water poured.
5. Let Drain – Allow the water to fully drain through the coffee bed. Total brew time should be about 3:00–3:30 minutes.
6. Serve – Remove the brewer, pour your coffee into a mug or carafe, and enjoy.

Why This Recipe?

A 1:16 brew ratio offers a lighter, more transparent cup — ideal for appreciating the nuance in our direct trade, shade-grown coffee, grown with care for ecosystems and communities.
