Gatugi Factory – Othaya Farmer Cooperative Society
Othaya Farmer Cooperative is a founding member of the Kenya Cooperative Coffee Exporters (KCCE), a network of nearly 4,000 cooperatives formed in 2009 to empower farmers by managing marketing and export operations collectively.
This lot comes from the Gatugi Factory, where 500 smallholder farmers deliver cherry for processing. Coffee undergoes a 27–35 hour fermentation, followed by a 12-hour soak, density sorting, and two weeks of drying. The parchment is then milled and graded at the Othaya dry mill—a hallmark of Kenya’s commitment to quality and precision.
Annual output averages 323,000 kg, with each farmer producing enough for about two exportable 60kg bags of green coffee.
